Day 25 of 31 Days of Wisdom
“Whoever has no rule over his own spirit is like a city broken down, without walls” Proverbs 25:28
A city that is “broken down, without walls” is open for exploitation: no security, no order, and no protection. It is vulnerable and easily taken advantage of. This is also true for someone who has no rule over his own spirit. What does it mean to have no rule over your spirit? It means that you are not in control of your emotions, the peace you walk in, and the thoughts you entertain. Such a person can easily be manipulated. It’s easy for them to have a mood swing. It’s easy for them to fly off the handle. This kind of person can have their day easily ruined by someone who says or does something to them. Do you know anyone like that?
Today I’d like you to have total rule over your spirit. Here are three things you can do to accomplish that:
1) Develop a deep awareness of your spiritual identity in Christ. You do this by meditating on New Testament scriptures that focus on who you have become since accepting Christ in your life.
2) If you are holding resentment, anger, or unforgiveness towards anyone, including yourself, forgive them and bless them.
3) Commit to living a lifestyle of praise unto God. You can even start today by finding a place to express thanks and praise to God. The more you do this, the stronger you will be. This happens because you become more aware of God in your life and less aware of negative circumstances.
My prayer for you today is based on 1 Corinthians 15:58 which says, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”
