Where do you stand?

“He who is of a proud heart stirs up strife, but he who trusts in the Lord will be prospered.” Proverbs 28:25

Would you consider yourself to be a proud person? Pride isn’t necessarily a bad thing but it can be as we see in the context of verse 25. To be honest with you, I never considered that someone who doesn’t trust in the Lord is showing a form of pride. But as I look carefully at this verse I see that’s exactly what’s happening when we do not trust in Him. This verse compares two people: the first person is one who is proud, the second person is the one who trusts in the Lord.

The one who is proud stirs up strife. He is so convinced that his way is the right way. His thoughts are the best thoughts. His feelings are the most important. Such a person will not only limit God’s grace over their life, but they will push people out of their lives. The second person is one who trusts in the Lord. This person will prosper because he constantly positions himself to be led by the Lord. He humbles himself to the point where he will wait before making critical decisions. This is what it means to be humble and the result of it is prosperity.

Everyone trusts in something or someone. People who have a hard time trusting in people may trust in themselves. People who don’t trust in themselves may trust in money. There are those who don’t trust in money but instead put their trust in their education. These are all good but when they are used as a replacement of trusting in the Lord we now enter a dimension of pride.

So are there areas in your life you have refused to trust the Lord? Have you yet to decide to trust Him with everything? Your love life, your work life, family, ministry, etc.? To the extent we don’t trust Him is the extent we will push Him out and lean on our own understanding. But to the extent we do trust Him is the extent that we will experience His grace and prosperity.

If you know there is an area in which you have not trusted in the Lord as of yet, let today be a new day for you. Commit to giving Him all of you, in every way.

Love,

Ernst
