Decisions decisions

Last Sunday at Life Church I closed out “Eyes for the Disguised” which focused on bringing the hidden things to light. I’d like to leave a final thought with you and that is on the power of making decisions. Making decisions causes you to see the future because every decision you make has an effect that plays out in your future. When we choose not to be gridlocked by indecision we are empowered for what’s to come. Alternatively, indecision keeps you in a weakened position. It makes you immobile and powerless. And even more interesting is that it keeps you […]

No Filter

Do you live with a filter? Do you find that you are constantly living behind a veil, not revealing your truest passions, avoiding certain emotions, or beliefs? Many of us do! We do this because we are not fully aware of God’s love and acceptance of us. When we recognize that God’s love is pure, deep, and rich, it frees us to accept who we are. You may be thinking: “Ernst, there’s some things that I want, feel, and like that I don’t think God is in agreement with.” Perhaps. But perhaps you are identifying with a limited view of […]

When tragedy hits…

This week started with some bad news. I heard of a couple of deaths of people. Even though I did not know them personally a few people that I do know were shaken up. In the face of tragedy, many times you’re not sure what to say. I sat in my living room thinking about the situation and then I felt the Lord share something with me. He said: “In the midst of tragedy, feed on my faithfulness”. I immediately knew what that meant. In the midst of a time of grief the best thing you can do is to […]

Are You Frustrated?

This past week at Life Church I had a great time talking about the various emotions we feel and the root of these emotions.  It was great, if I may say so myself (patting myself on the back). But one emotion I didn’t focus on was frustration! Are you frustrated about anything?  Wish things were different in some regard? Let me share two things about frustration that will help you. First, frustration is a good thing.  Frustration is what I call a “Warning Signal Emotion”.  It signals that something is out of whack and needs adjustment.  Imagine what life would […]

When Things Are Not Going Right

What do you do when everything seems to be falling into place? Let it! You are an heir of the grace of life! That means life has grace and you were meant to inherit it.  So when things are going smoothly, it’s not the calm before the storm. It’s life! But when things don’t seem to be going right here’s 5 things you can do: 1) Be thankful for the good. Things aren’t as bad as they seem.  Our perspective sometimes needs to be adjusted. 2) Speak peace over what is troubling you.  Just as Jesus spoke to the winds, speak […]

He Won’t Hold Your Future Against You

If you’ve been in the faith for some time you probably heard that God won’t hold your past against you.  However, have you ever considered that He won’t hold your future against you either?  Think about these 3 questions: 1)     Before God gave Solomon riches and wisdom, did God know Solomon would one day give his heart to idols? 2)     Before Judas betrayed Jesus did Jesus know it? 3)     Before Peter denied Christ three times, was Jesus aware of it? The answer to all of these questions is yes!  God knew the future in each of these cases but still decided to […]

How Big Is Your Ask?

Two things happened to me within the last couple of days that inspired this blog. First, I’ve been having some issues with my cell phone carrier and to make a long story short I needed a new phone.  After talking to a couple of reps who essentially told me I couldn’t upgrade my phone, alas a breakthrough came.  I told the rep, ‘Look, I’ve been a faithful customer for years, always paying on time.  Isn’t there something you can do for me?”  She punched in a few things on her system, came back on the line and told me she […]
