Where do you stand?

“He who is of a proud heart stirs up strife, but he who trusts in the Lord will be prospered.” Proverbs 28:25 Would you consider yourself to be a proud person? Pride isn’t necessarily a bad thing but it can be as we see in the context of verse 25. To be honest with you, I never considered that someone who doesn’t trust in the Lord is showing a form of pride. But as I look carefully at this verse I see that’s exactly what’s happening when we do not trust in Him. This verse compares two people: the first […]

Fully satisfied

Day 27 of 31 Days of Wisdom “A satisfied soul loathes the honeycomb, but to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.” I’m really enjoying my current sermon series called “He will satisfy you”. So when I came across Proverbs 27:7, it seemed to jump off the page. It highlights the dangers of living an unsatisfied life. It says that the hungry soul (unsatisfied person) will resort to things that are toxic, bitter, and even harmful, all in search of finding satisfaction. People who are unsatisfied will commit to unhealthy relationships, stay at jobs where they are miserable, and […]

No gossip here

Day 26 of 31 Days of Wisdom “Where there is no wood, the fire goes out; and where there is no talebearer (gossip), strife ceases.” Proverbs 26:20 Gossip, it’s something that feels good but really it brings hurt and pain. Some people love talking about others. What a person said, how a person looked, who a person is spending time with, whose doing what, and the list goes on. Some people not only like to gossip but they also love to hear it. Why? I believe somehow it makes them feel better about themselves. But gossip also creates strife. It […]

Take the reins

Day 25 of 31 Days of Wisdom “Whoever has no rule over his own spirit is like a city broken down, without walls” Proverbs 25:28 A city that is “broken down, without walls” is open for exploitation: no security, no order, and no protection. It is vulnerable and easily taken advantage of. This is also true for someone who has no rule over his own spirit. What does it mean to have no rule over your spirit? It means that you are not in control of your emotions, the peace you walk in, and the thoughts you entertain. Such a […]

5 ways to keep someone from dying

Day 24 of 31 Days of Wisdom   “Deliver those who are drawn toward death, and hold back those stumbling to the slaughter.” Proverbs 24:11   Today you may be in contact with someone who fits this verse. It’s sort of a morbid picture. It’s a picture of someone who is attracted, pulled, and heading in a direction that leads to death. Our instruction is to deliver them.   But who is actually drawn to death? What kind of person is stumbling to the slaughter? If we are talking on natural terms these are people who can’t seem to get out of their own […]

Is it right to physically discipline your kids?

“Do not withhold correction from a child, for if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. You shall beat him with a rod, and deliver his soul from hell” Proverbs 23:13-14 I’ve accepted the fact that I’m getting older. By virtue of me using Proverbs 23:13-14 as today’s key verse says a lot. When I was younger this would be the last verse I’d want to hear. But maturity shows me that when parents neglect to correct their kids, and sometimes even to the extent of physically disciplining them, they are doing their children a disservice. Throughout […]

Only the best

“Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men.” Proverbs 22:29 If there is one thing I’d like you to embrace today from Proverbs 22 it would be the value of excellence. Excelling is not only getting better but going beyond average. The promise we see in this verse is that the person who excels will not stand before unknown men but will instead be brought before great and influential people. So what is it that you do? Are you a student, a career woman or man, […]

10 reasons you should plan your life

Day 21 of 31 Days of Wisdom “The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, but those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty.” Proverbs 21:5 Lack of planning is something many of us can probably relate to. Planning takes effort. It takes time. You sit and write and think and map out and so on and so on. This is why so many people don’t do it because it’s easier to just go with the flow, take it one day at a time, live in the moment, and any other cliché we can think of. Spontaneity is […]

He will defend you

(Day 20 of 31 days of wisdom) “Do not say, “I will recompense evil”; wait for the Lord, and He will save you” Proverbs 20:22 Are you currently a victim of injustice? Are you in a situation where someone is intentionally out to hurt you? Do you feel afraid because of attacks that threaten your reputation? Perhaps someone is looking to get you fired from a job or working a plot that will bring you great loss. I have great news for you today: God is your defender! In looking at the verse again, we are first instructed not to […]

Living lavishly

“Luxury is not fitting for a fool, Much less for a servant to rule over princes.” Proverbs 19:10 Are you a fool? If not, I have good news for you: you were made to enjoy luxury! God made this world beautiful. He poured all precious kinds of stones in the earth. He decked out the earth with breath-taking waterfalls, springs, oceans, and lakes. He placed an innumerable amount of stars in the sky. He created all sorts of wonderful plant life, flowers, scents, spices, foods, and all the richness one could ever imagine. Why? Because God has no problem with […]
