Remember, Always Talk To Strangers

Can you remember learning the exact opposite message?  As children we were taught to never talk to strangers.  It makes sense given the dangers children are susceptible to.  However, is it possible that we still don’t talk to strangers?  I wonder if we as adults should abandon that message.  When we are near someone who is strange or different from us do we instinctively go the other direction? Jesus was faced with a stranger one day.  On a very hot afternoon he sat by a well of water and struck up a conversation with a stranger.  John 4 describes this […]

WHY DID THIS HAPPEN?

Today we witnessed a deadly massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT. Twenty innocent children shot to death, along with 6 other adults.  The gunman then took his own life.  When tragedy like this takes place many people have questions.  The most common is, “Why?” Why does this sort of thing happen?  Where is God in all of this?  Could this have been avoided? And, how do we prevent this from happening again? Let me first say that there are natural solutions and spiritual.  Both are important!  Some of the natural solutions may be a look into stricter gun […]

Living Worry Free

Are you worried about anything right now?  Anything you’re anticipating not going well for you?  If you are I have good news to share with you.  You can really live worry free.  Before I share how, first think about the dangers of worrying.  WebMD released an article on the physical effects of worrying.  I was surprised to learn of how many negative reactions your body goes through due to constant worry.  Some of the effects are headaches, irritability, nausea, fatigue, depression, and many others. How Big Is Your Ask?

Two things happened to me within the last couple of days that inspired this blog. First, I’ve been having some issues with my cell phone carrier and to make a long story short I needed a new phone.  After talking to a couple of reps who essentially told me I couldn’t upgrade my phone, alas a breakthrough came.  I told the rep, ‘Look, I’ve been a faithful customer for years, always paying on time.  Isn’t there something you can do for me?”  She punched in a few things on her system, came back on the line and told me she […]

Making A Difference In Someone’s Life

This weekend I learned something new. Many people don’t expect good things to happen to them, especially from strangers. On Saturday Life Church’s outreach team gave out free gift bags full of toiletries. They went throughout the Canarsie Brooklyn community blessing people with common household items as well as back-to-school supplies.  When the team returned they were all sharing amazing stories! They told stories of how people were literally moved to tears, and some stories of how people were dismissive. There were some people however that were sort of in an awkward position.  They wanted the gift bag but didn’t […]

Confident Man

Years ago a young man told me he was in love with his girlfriend of four years, yet he didn’t want to propose to her. Why?  He felt he couldn’t provide for her and support a family. So he ran!  So many of us are running, not because we don’t want to do what’s right; we run away from challenges and responsibilities because deep down we are scared and lack confidence in our abilities. As a Pastor I’ve encountered many men and one challenge I’m seeing is that deep inside our bravado and toughness, we’re not confident.  Many of us […]
