Virtuous woman

Day 31 of 31 Days of Wisdom Congratulations! You walked with me through this wonderful book. I pray that as you are inspired you would feel free to look back and meditate on some of the wonderful things highlighted in this blog series. Today is our final day in Proverbs. I find it interesting that the first chapter begins with instruction from a father to a son and now the book ends with instruction from a mother to her son. King Lemuel’s mother gives him a stern warning about women, drinking, and perverting justice. She describes the woman that is […]

Wisdom works

Day 30 of 31 Days of Wisdom “There are four things which are little on the earth, But they are exceedingly wise: 25 The ants are a people not strong, Yet they prepare their food in the summer;26 The rock badgers are a feeble folk, Yet they make their homes in the crags; 27 The locusts have no king, Yet they all advance in ranks;28 The spider skillfully grasps with its hands, And it is in kings’ palaces.” Proverbs 30:24-28 As we wind down the 31 days of wisdom series this chapter touches on various topics. Spiritual muscle

Day 15 of 31 Days of Wisdom How strong is your spirit? That may sound like an odd question but I’d like you to think about that. One way you can measure your spirit’s strength is to look at how you respond to adversity. Do you shrink back? Do you fear and think the worst? What’s your reaction when you hear bad news? Do you allow it to set your mood and cause you to get depressed? There are some people who are weak in spirit. They can’t handle tough moments. They break down under pressure. Why is that? It […]

Guarding your heart

[Day 4 of 31 Days of Wisdom] Key verse:“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.” Prov. 4:23 When I was growing up, one of the biggest contentions I had with my parents was the music I would listen to. They had zero tolerance for anything non-Christian, and anything with a beat. It was tough! What made it worse was that the alternative they provided was a radio station that had no cultural relevance to me. Ever hear of Family Radio? I have nothing against Family Radio, but needless to say I wasn’t […]

Wisdom for great relationships with people

(Day 3 of 31 Days of Wisdom, blog series) One of my favorite verses in the book of Proverbs is actually found in chapter 3. Verses 3-4 give us a key to what it takes to have great relationships: “Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart,4 And so find favor and high esteem In the sight of God and man.”   Two words to focus on in these verses: mercy and truth. Believe it or not, if you become a prisoner to mercy and truth you will […]

Do you know the difference between knowledge, wisdom, & understanding?

(Day 2 of 31 Days of Wisdom) “For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding;” Proverbs 2:6 Here we see the Lord is not only the giver of wisdom but also of knowledge and understanding. But what is the difference between wisdom, knowledge, and understanding? Knowledge is facts. Wisdom tells you what you should do with those facts. Understanding tells you why you should do them (allowing you to identify cause and effect). When we have knowledge, wisdom, and understanding flowing together we experience great grace in our lives. Here’s a common example of how knowledge, […]
